If you're only going to be using mobile broadband occasionally, then a Pay As You Go mobile broadband service is likely to be your most economical option.

TopUp at £15 for 2GB of data. Note that TopUps expire after 30 days.

USB modem costs £19.99 and £10 Top Up purchase required.

Subsequently choose one of the following Pay As You Go options:

USB modem costs £20.99, which includes 1GB of data valid for one month, then choose Top-Ups as follows:

- £2 for 500MB of data
- £10 for 1GB of data
- £15 for 3GB of data
- £25 for 7GB of data

Note that once activated the above allowances will expire after 30 days. Top-Ups can be purchased online or wherever you see the Top-Up sign, e.g. supermarkets and petrol stations.

Top-Up must be activated online and converted into one of the Mobile Broadband Add-Ons.

Online service My3 allows you to check how much data you've used and how much you've got left.

O2 Pay As You Go Mobile Broadband

USB Modem £20.42 (PC and Mac compatible)

Then choose a TopUp as follows:
- £2.04 per day (200MB data allowance plus Unlimited Wi-Fi)
- £10.21 per month, valid for 30 days (1GB data allowance plus Unlimited Wi-Fi)
- £15.32 per month, valid for 30 days (2GB data allowance plus Unlimited Wi-Fi)

You can pay for further access (TopUp) online using your debit or credit card.

The TopUp will also allow unlimited access to over 7,500 Wi-Fi hotspots provided by The Cloud and BT Openzone throughout the UK.

Orange does not have a product that is marketed as Pay As You Go mobile broadband, but you can buy a modem with a short 30 day renewable contract as follows:

£5 a month contract charge, then 5.1p per MB for data, capped at £40 per month.
